Quirke, Mick

The community of Castlebridge was very saddened to hear of the recent sudden death of Mr Michael (MIck) Quirke.

Mick (72) of 7 Westgate, Wexford and formerly Ardcolm, Castlebridge passed away on December 4 following a short illness.
A native of Castlebridge, he was a well-liked and respected member of the local community in which he was actively involved.
Mick was a GAA supporter all his life, both as a player, administrator and a supporter.
He was a well-known figure in Wexford Park and at matches all over the county.

He was also a familiar face in Hollymount, the home of the Shelmaliers Club which he supported and worked for all his life.
Mick travelled the length and breadth of Ireland for over half a century to support Wexford and Wexford teams and was a regular attendee at Croke Park.

His name was also synonymous with Castlebridge Reading Rooms. He was its treasurer for over 40 years and he played a huge part in its continued existence.
Mick had a great passion for snooker and billiards and played and promoted both games with enthusiasm.
He was a founder member of the Wexford Snooker and Billiards League and up to the time of his passing, was very involved in the organisation.

Mick is survived by his sisters Eileen and Kathleen; his brothers Jim and John; brother-in-law Larry; his nephews and nieces and a wide circle of family and friends.
He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and by his community.
He will be remembered as a person of the highest principles, of honest, softly-spoken opinions and as a true and reliable friend.
Burial took place in Curracloe cemetery following funeral Mass in Castlebridge church.
