The Late Angela Roche

The recent death of Angela Roche was the cause of great shock and sadness in Piercestown and the surrounding areas.

One of Piercestown's most loyal and popular parishioners, she passed away peacefully at her home on April 25 last, surrounded by her loving family; her husband Jack and children Declan, Lorraine and Brendan.

Angela's death followed a long battle with cancer. Throughout her illness she showed remarkable courage and determination, which was a testament to the kind of person she was.

A daughter of Ben and Mary Wilson, of Kellystown, Drinagh. Angela was born in June 1949. She had one brother, Bernard, and three sisters, Audrey, Jacinta and Roseleen.
She was educated at Piercestown NS and Wexford VEC. After school Angela went to work in the laboratory at Wexford Creamery, where she dealt with the day-to-day testing of products.

In 1970 Angela Married Jack Roche, a Kilmore man whom she had met three years earlier at a dance in Rosslare Strand.

Over the next ten years they had their beloved children and settled in the parish of Piercestown.

She was heavily involved with the local 25th Wexford scout group and had many close friends within that organisation.

Angela was also a tireless worker for St Martin's GAA Club, with whom Jack had acted as Secretary.

For the past decade Angela had also worked as editor of the local parish newsletter, a role which kept her Saturday afternoons busy so the weekly edition would be ready for the first Mass of the weekend in Piercestown.

One of Angela's great passion was her garden. She loved when spring time came around, with the sign of her hundreds of daffodils blooming.

She took great pride in her garden and the family home would always be surrounded with a variety of flowers, scrubs and trees, all combing to create a sea of colour.

Angela also loved attending concerts with Jack and over the years they saw some of the world's biggest artists together.

Angela also loved when she and Jack took their family on summer holidays, usually in the west of Ireland, with Killarney her favourite. Family life was very important to Angela and always her number one priority. Her door was always open to nieces and nephews, who would come over and spend time with Aunty Ag'.

In recent years, Angela often commented on how she loved spending time with her grandchildren Shane and Kate, whom she adored and who brought so much joy to her life, especially during the times she was ill.
The high esteem in which Angela was held was reflected by the huge crowds at both her removal to St Martin's Church and her funeral- one of the biggest that Piercestown has seen.

She was laid to rest in Piercestown Cemetery.

The Roche family would like to thank all those who offered their condolences and support and all those who looked after Angela during her illness, including the oncology team and staff at Wexford General Hospital, the hospice nurses and Dr William Hooper, as well as Fr John O'Reilly and Fr Liam Jordan.

Angela had left behind a legacy as a loving wife to Jack, an adored mother to Declan, Lorraine and Brendan, a cherished sister and daughter to the Wilson family, a precious nanny to her grandchildren Shane and Katie, and loving mother-in-law to Colm and Andrea.

She will be also be deeply missed by her many friends. Anyone who knew Angela was lucky to have done so and her friendship and trust were very important to many people.

May she rest in peace.
