Great sadness at news of Michael sudden death
THE SUDDEN death of Michael Mulhall, which occurred on October 27, was met with disbelief in the Faythe and Maudlintown area.
Michael was born in Wexford in 1936 and was educated in the Faythe and the Christian Brothers Schools. He was a very keen sportsman in his younger years and was a member of the parnell's hurling club, St. Mary's Maudlintown GFC, DMP Athletic Club and the CYMS club.
He was also a member of the Franciscan Pantomime Society and Wexford Light Opera Society.
He worked in the Accounts Office of Clover Meats before emigrating to London in the late 1950's to john his late brother Eddie, with whom he was very close.
His great love of sport was evident there and he joined the Fr. Murphy Hurling Club and played with them for many years.
During his time there he kept in touch with was happening at home, frequently on family visits and especially for the all Ireland hurling final. He was a ardent supporter of the Kilkenny team, following in the footsteps of his late father who hailed from Kilkenny.
Michael retired to his native Wexford about six years ago, but his health deteriorated in recent years.
He had a fantastic sense of humour and great wit and enjoyed socialising with the many friends from his school days and others he had made since returning home.
His ill health didn't deter him from going to his local pubs, the Sailing Cot and Brady's, and he was a member of the Sailing Cot team for the festival Pubs Quiz.
He was an avid reader, enjoyed quizzes and had a terrific knowledge of the history of the GAA.
A son of the late Edward and Gertrude Mulhall, Michael grew up at 5 St. Brendan's Road. His sister Aileen predeceased him in 2004. As a child he was an altar server at Bride Street Church and it was there his funeral Mass was held.#
Michael is survived by his brothers Ben and Gerry, his sisters Mary (Dundalk) and Monica (Wexford), sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Interment took place in St. Ibar's Cemetery, Crosstown, Wexford.
