The Late Willie Gannon

Shock and disbelief has greeted the death this week of well known Foulksmills man, Willie Gannon.
Willie, from Coolcliffe, Foulksmills died unexpectedly. He was just 56 years of age.
Married to Helen and the father of 14 year old Cailin, Willie was very well known in the locality and his funeral on Sunday was 'one of the biggest ever seen in Ballymitty'.
A welder by trade, Willie specialised in arc welding and his services were much in demand all over the world. He worked in far afield as Libya and Saudi Arabia, although most recently he was contracted to work on the gas rigs off Kinsale in Cork.
One of great passion in life was handball and he played the sport with Ballymitty. He was also an avid GAA fan and kicked football and played hurling with Bannow/Ballymitty GAA as a young man.
He also enjoyed travel and music, and Stafford's in Tullycanna was his local pun, where he was well known and very well liked by the clientele.
He was also a keen gardener, who enjoyed getting out to cut the grass. Indeed his manicured lawns were his pride and joy.
A very outgoing and sociable individual, Willie will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by hi wife, Helen; daughter Cailin; brothers, Loughlin and Martin; sisters , Margaret, Mary, Christine and Bernadette; relatives and friends.
His remains were interred in Ballymitty cemetery on Sunday followed by Requiem Mass in Ballymitty Parish Church. Fr Cahill and Fr. O'Leary officiated at the ceremony.
