Doyle, Ray
February 07, 2010
Many people in the Glynn area were deeply saddened this week to learn of the death of Raymond 'Ray' Doyle.
Ray, from Bulgan Glynn and formerly Lambstown Killurin, passed away last weekend after a battle with cancer. He died just one week short of his 74th birthday. Ray died in Knockeen nursing home, where he had resided in recent weeks, however he had put up a courageous three year battle against his illness.
Throughout his life Ray worked as a labourer for a variety of farmers.
As a young man, he was a player with the Glynn-Barntown club and was also a selector with the club for many years. He had an avid interest in hurling and football throughout his life. He was also a great fan of horse racing and would frequently attend the races at Wexford or Gowran or further afield. He loved gardening and would spend hours sewing his own vegetable plots. He was a sociable man and enjoyed nothing more than a drink and a chat in his local bar, Declan's of Killurin.
He is predeceased by his late wife Eleanor, and survived by his children, Karen and Billy, grandchildren, Adam, Ellie, Ryan, Evan and Rory; son-in-law Ian; daughter-in-law, Sharon; brothers, Sean and Timmy; sister, Bernadette Murphy (Ballyhogue) and Catherine Brewer (UK). His remains were interred in Whitechurch Cemetery on Monday, following 12 noon Requiem Mass in St Laurence's Church, Glynn.
