Leinster club SFC: Éire Óg goals sink Castletown

October 27, 2019

Sean Gannon gathers possession for Eire Og

Éire Óg (Carlow) 4-6

Castletown (Wexford) 1-10

Éire Óg's penchant for notching goals proved decisive as they saw off Castletown in the first round of the Leinster club SFC at Netwatch Cullen Park.

The five-time provincial winners never looked back after first half majors from Chris Blake, Cormac Mullins and Jordan Morrissey, along with points from Blake (two), Mullins and Sean Gannon, helped them to a 3-4 to 0-4 lead at the break.

Jonathan Bealin - son of 1995 Dublin All-Ireland winning midfielder Paul - scored eight points for Castletown, but their race was run when Blake raised his second green flag midway through the second half. Robbie Brooks bagged a late consolation goal for the visitors who became the latest Wexford champions to fall at the first hurdle.

In fact, no team from the Model County has won a game in the Leinster club SFC since 2004.
