Wexford manager Davy Fitzgerald looks set to have to plan without Damien Reck and Rory O’Connor for the start of the NHL 1A campaign.

The Leinster side begin their league run with a clash against All-Ireland SHC champions Limerick on Sunday, January 27th.

However, it looks as if they will have to plan without both Reck and O’Connor who are both currently sidelined through injury.

Reck suffered a fractured jaw in the opening minutes of the Fenway Classic game against Limerick in Boston, while O’Connor has had surgery on a troublesome knee injury.

Fitzgerald states in the Wexford People that neither player is likely to be available for the opening round of the league at the very least.

“Damien has returned to gym work, while Rory’s fitness will also be monitored over the coming weeks,” stated Fitzgerald.

“I am adamant that Rory will not be playing until fully fit, unlike last season, which will rule him out of the Limerick league opener.

“I have Damien in doing gym work but given the nature of his injury he will also miss the league opener. That’s the way it is at the moment.

“We have been back training since December 1st. I don’t know how long it will take players to fully recover from their injuries, but they will not be playing until fully fit.”
