Wicklow hurlers have received a massive boost ahead of their Christy Ring Cup campaign as a former Wexford hurler has joined their ranks.

Kilrush-Askamore clubman PJ Nolan has linked up with Seamus Murphy's charges, but will continue to line out with his club.

Nolan was part of the Wexford squad from 2006 and made 57 appearances for the Model County scoring 0-52.

Under new GAA rules, Nolan can only play for Wicklow for one year if he is to remain with his club, but Murphy told the Wicklow People that it was great to have a player of his experience on board.

"PJ Nolan is now a fully-fledged Wicklow player. He's back in action with Kilrush-Askamore for the last seven or eight weeks after an operation in the middle of last year, so touch wood, he will be ok to go for the Christy Ring.

"He's a very talented hurler who would have played anywhere from midfield up for Wexford. We're trying to get his fitness levels up, he lost that little bit of fitness and every passing week is a big help to him."
