The Tipperary and Wexford players get to know each other during the Allianz League encounter in Thurles

Three crucial national hurling league games went down for decision this evening, as well as the rescheduled Dr McKenna Cup final.

Wexford's hurlers had made a flying start to the year and Davy Fitzgerald's confident charges were given a searching examination at Semple Stadium, where they took on Tipperary in Division 1A.

In Division 1B, table-toppers Limerick and new-look Dublin were both bidding to bolster their promotion prospects when they clashed at the Gaelic Grounds, while either Laois or Antrim would take a major step towards survival when they came face to face at Portlaoise.

Meanwhile, in football, Tyrone were aiming for an amazing seventh successive Dr McKenna Cup success but they came up against in-form neighbours Donegal in the decider at the Athletic Grounds - a tasty little encounter to keep the two camps ticking over during their break from league action!
