Senior hurling management

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

There is an awful lot of negativity on here. For a county with fifteen hurling clubs our results over the past few years have been at worst good and at best amazing.Sherdian and Savage over their five years have put more into hurling than anyone ever has in Westmeath.OK there have been disasters like Hanley and the situation with no centre of excellence is bad but our hurlers have done well and promise to better. The footballers are after winning promotion and hopefully under new management can reach division two.I don't know would local coaches do better but the history in Westmeath of local men taking charge is terrible with all the local jealousies taking over quickly.

Replying To Djkray:  "Didn't read the article in the paper but money is not the issue as Moran cost them nothing. Hurlers cost more than footballers because its all Leinster grant money. Football management is costing a fortune because we went out of our own native county again. Nobody will raise an eyebrow tonight in the meeting and if they do they will be shut up very quickly. The power that be will never be beaten and can do what they want and football and hurling will never improve in this county. We are technically going to be the last county in the country with no center of excellence and no plans for one either. we can talk all we want on here it will never change and more and more people turning off GAA in our county. The one team who can win something this year is the Under 20s football team who were a excellent minor team 2 years ago and we dont even give them a separate management team and they will be treated like a nuisance when we should be nurturing them and investing in them. We will officially be the only county in Leinster that doesn't have a separate u20S Management. Why is there so little respect for our teams and does anyone care ?"
U21 hurlers is the team that beat wexford.. This team would've got together with no expenses of they had to under Adrian

that is laughable
they are just spending the hurling development grant money on the top team. nothing left for clubs or development squads
I'd say there is going to be 50k+ spent on those three outside coaches next year travelling from waterford and kilkenny
jimmy o'grady comes from a club where there is now no club hurling in edenderry. why?
the county board officers pick outside coaches and don't bother developing our own coaches.
30K wasted every year on 'sports science' with AIT when we could have a full time S&C for almost the same money

This is the truth and people need to realise. Why cant we be transparent and put all monies paid out and to who. Because the fact is the money been used to pay these people is supposed to be for development and thats a fact. LEINSTER must know the scam that's going on.

the county board get money every year from Leinster GAA for running all our hurling development squads.
the money is not spent on them. there is never any money to get tops for young lads.
they also get money for stuff like a helmet subsidy scheme, again not passed onto clubs and schools.
they'd rather disband an entire minor hurling squad over an incident involving 1/2 players than have to buy the squad any gear.
family members of the top table getting paid for coaching in schools and clubs.
I could go on.
