The Late Joseph Scally The death took place at St Vincent's Hospital, Dublin of Mr Joseph (Joe) Scally, Curramore, Kiltoom. Aged 67, he had been in ill health for a short and his untimely passing had provoked great sorrow over a wide area. A native of Killucan, County Westmeath he worked life as a butcher and between 1978 ad 1997 he ran his own business as a butcher at Retreat in Athlone and worked latterly with John Croghan at Centra in Irishtown, Athlone. A good humoured friendly man, he was a lover of all sport and played squash, badminton and handball as as Gaelic football over the decades. He was activist with the Garrycastle GAA Club for a number of years and served as a selector and trainer of various club teams. He also played his handball at Bealnamullia for a number of years and was an activist within the Athlone Squash Club and Athlone Badminton Club. A skillful set and ballroom dancer, he was also an accomplished card player and enjoyed a wide range of recreational pursuits generally. He was also a devoted husband and father and, throughout his life he was noted for his sense of neighbourliness, his caring manner and his genuine nature. He is survived by his wife, Nancy (nee Martin, Curramore, Kiltoom) sons, David, Birmingham and Aidan, Curramore and daughter, Mrs Olivia Kirwan, Loghrea. He is also survived by brothers, John, Patrick and William and sisters, Bridie, Mai and Kathleen, son-in-law, Mark Kirwan, nieces, nephews and innumerable other relatives. Following Concelebrated Mass at the Church of the Risen Christ, Kiltoom and funeral took place to Kiltoom Cemetery. Courtesy of the Roscommon Herald 8th January 2008
