Athlone club notes

March 20, 2017

Seniors
With no league games this St Patrick's weekend, our seniors hosted Offaly's Ballycumber in a challenge on Thursday night.  An early brace of goals from Jordan Marshment and another from Andy Lynam looked set to pave the way for an easy win for the hosts, but the Offalymen recovered from those early setbacks to dominate the rest of the game.  However poor shooting was to do their undoing and a couple of well-taken late goals from Luke Kelly and Paul Bannon gave Athlone a three-point victory by 5-9 to 2-15.

League action resumes next weekend with our seniors at home to Coralstown-Kinnegad in Division 1 at 8pm on Friday night and our juniors travelling to Multyfarnham for their Division 4 clash at 11.30am on Sunday.

Ladies Division 4
Our Junior Ladies began their league campaign with a comprehensive win over a youthful Goldsmith Girls side in Páirc Chiaráin on Tuesday last.  Congratulations to the visitors who were making their first ever appearance in adult competition, although it was a baptism of fire against an impressive Athlone team who showed the benefits of their intensive early season training regime under their new management team.  Next up for the ladies is a challenge at home to Clara at 7pm on Saturday night.

U16 Girls Division 1 League
Athlone 3-12 St. Lomans 3-09
Well done to our U16 girls who also began their league campaign with a win when they defeated St. Lomans by 3-12 to 3-09 in terrible conditions in Pairc Chiarain on Sunday.
