O'Neill, Seamus

March 15, 2014
The community in Summerhill, Drum and surrounding areas of South Roscommon were saddened to hear of the death of Mr Seamus (Seamie)O'Neill, Summerhill, Athlone, which occurred suddenly at his residence on Saturday, March 1. Aged 77 years, Seamie was son of the late James and Margaret (nee Nolan), Castletown-Geoghegan and was a member of a family of three. He was predeceased by his sister Pauline in 1983. Of a friendly, caring and outgoing disposition he was highly respected by all who knew him and will be very sadly missed by his neighbours in Summerhill. In his earlier years he worked in Gentex and later joined the staff of Irish Rail where he remained for over twenty years which took him to retirement. In both establishments he enjoyed the esteem and respect of work colleagues. In his younger days he had a long association as a player with the Clann na nGael senior team where he was an oustanding defender. He won three Senior County Championships with Clann na nGael in 1961, 1966 and 1970. A most engaging conversationalist he also supported all community and church linked activities.
