One Direction to play Cusack Park?
May 16, 2013
Speculation is mounting that the world's biggest boyband, One Direction, could perform at Cusack Park, Mullingar in September.
Westmeath chairman Sean Sheridan revealed at a recent county board meeting that the venue will be holding a two-day concert on Friday, September 13 and Saturday, September 14, which will generate up to €30,000 for the Westmeath GAA coffers. And while the concert line-up has yet to be confirmed, there are strong rumours that One Direction - which features Mullingar's Niall Horan - could be the headline act.
"Fundraising is difficult in the current climate and, having considered our options, we will be holding a concert in Cusack Park on September 13 and 14. We are aiming to raise between €25,000 and €30,000," Sheridan is quoted as saying in the Westmeath Topic.
"We won't be doing anything, only leaving the venue at the disposal (of the concert organisers). There will be a committee organising it and they will have to leave Cusack Park the way they got it. It's just like they do in Croke Park."
