Flanagan: league form counts for nothing

Pat Flanagan during his spell as Westmeath football manager
Westmeath manager Pat Flanagan is adamant that league form counts for nothing when the championship begins.
Next year, there will be three tiers between Westmeath and their Leinster championship opponents Carlow, but Flanagan explained to the Westmeath Examiner that will count for nothing when the sides meet at Cusack Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Lake County go into the match as strong favourites to advance to a meeting with Dublin in the quarterfinal. However, Flanagan feels that they will have to be fully focused on that task in hand this weekend.
"Carlow may be written off by everybody else, but they won't be written off by anybody in our camp," stressed Flanagan.
"We should know that better than anybody. We were written off at the start of the year; nobody gave us a chance of winning any games in division 2, last year or this year.
"So we know that Carlow can come up here and go all the way against the odds, and we know that we have to be prepared and at our very best if we're going to succeed."
