Carr calls on players to step up

May 15, 2013
Westmeath minor manager Tom Carr feels that his players will have to step up a level for when they face Meath in the Leinster MFC semi final.

The sides meet in July after Westmeath comfortably brushed aside the challenge of Wicklow at Cusack Park last Saturday, while Meath defeated Laois.

Westmeath looked impressive against the Garden County and the match was as good as over after the first quarter, but the former All-Ireland winner feels that Meath will be a different task altogether.

Speaking to the Westmeath Examiner he said: "A lot of work needs to be done. Meath will be a tough proposition. I saw Meath taking a hammering from Offaly and it was hard to see them coming back from it, but they did.

"That's the nature of minor football. It's all once off stuff and there is no pattern as games are sporadic. We have to wait now five or six weeks for the semi final."
