Southern Gaels club notes

August 04, 2020

Southern Gaels travelled to Rochfordbridge for the opening round of the u13 Division 2 Championship. We lost the toss and had to play the first half into the teeth of a very strong wind. St.Brigids's got the first few scores but points by Oisin O'Donoghue and two goals by Keelan McNamara brought us right back into contention at half time. In the second half the wind abated but our midfield of Peter, Matthew and Aaron worked hard to get good ball into the forwards. Goalkeeper Josh and the backline held firm against pressure from St.Brigid's. Unfortunately, we just couldn't close the gap towards the end of the half. It was the clubs first ever game at U13 level and the teams first game of 2020, great to be back hurling.

Thanks to all the parents for traveling.

Under 15

Southern Gaels 8-20  Cullion/St Bridget's 2-0

The Under 15s got their campaign off to an impressive start in Cullion last week with a solid performance that left no doubt as to their intentions for the rest of the season. More difficult challenges await them but what impressed most was their total hurling from start to finish. There were no less than ten scorers who made their presence felt. Led by captain Johnny Martin additional scores came from the impressive Dano Mc Monagle, new comer Luke Sylvester, three-point Tadhg Baker and the solid Josh Kenny to mention but a few. This was a team effort driven from the back line and all deserve praise. Well done and thanks to all parents who traveller and encouraged.

Under 17.

Southern Gaels 5-17   St. Oliver Plunkett's 0-14

The Under 17s won their opening game away to St. Oliver Plunkett's from Mullingar in impressive style. Driven on by Chulainn Dowd, Cian Mc Carthy and Paul Hogan they opened their campaign in fine stlye. Their second half display was clinical and they look forward to their next game at home to Fr. Dalton's from Ballymore in a weeks time.
