AGM

There was a good-sized attendance at our AGM which took place in Scoil an Chlochair on Sunday night, December 15.

Members took the opportunity to reflect on the year while also looking ahead to 2020. In his address, chairman Ken Scally thanked his fellow committee members for their dedication, the seven teams who look after the lotto every week, Nicky Finn and Maurice Colton for overseeing the running of our all-weather facility as well as our sponsors, including main sponsor Ronan McCarthy of the M6 Service Station.

He also acknowledged the great work of coaching officer Fergal Fox and the various underage mentors, congratulated the ladies footballers on winning Division 3 of the league and commended Fiona Kiernan and Geraldine Fennell for re-establishing Scor in the club. Ken, who is entering his 11th year in the chair, thanked former intermediate manager Keith Higgins and his backroom team for all their work over the past two years and wished new manager John Gordon and his selectors Keith Gorry and Sean Rochford well.

“After winning the junior championship with us last year, the outgoing management achieved their goal of consolidating our intermediate status this year,” he said.

“People thought we were gone after the first two rounds of the championship, but we eventually found our feet at intermediate level and stayed up thanks to two big performances against Multyfarnham and Tubberclair. We’re already looking forward to the new season and the prospect of John Gordon and his management building on the progress of their predecessors.”

Marie Lynagh presented a superb secretary's report as well as a complete rundown of the adult results during the year. She too expressed the belief that we would be better prepared for the rigours of intermediate football.

“In 2019 we started our intermediate championship journey. In the early stages, we found the step-up in grade a little difficult to deal with,” she wrote.

“However, as the championship progressed, our players began to adjust to the pace of intermediate level. I have no doubt that in 2020 we will hit the ground running at the start of the championship.”

Detailed reports on ladies football, underage activities and Scor were also presented, while treasurer Martina Rochford's report showed the club to be in a healthy state financially, despite a lotto jackpot of €15,000 being recently won. The weekly lotto, the Astroturf facility and Mel Kiernan’s ‘Last Man Standing Competition’ provided the main revenue streams in 2019. It was also noted that the Astroturf facility will be fully paid for by this time next year.

Philip Kiernan was elected as the new treasurer in succession to Martina Rochford, who was praised for her diligent work over the last two years. Martina will now act as assistant treasurer, while PJ Ward and Brendan McMahon are the new faces on the committee.

The 2020 executive committee is - chairman: Ken Scally; vice-chairman: Paul Daly; secretary: Marie Lynagh; treasurer: Philip Kiernan; assistant treasurer: Martina Rochford; PRO: Randal Scally; county board delegates: Philip Kiernan and Ger Carton; coaching and child protection officer: Fergal Fox; underage chairman: Pat Lynagh; health & wellbeing officer: Brendan Nannery; Scor coordinator: Fiona Kiernan.
