Kilbeggan Shamrocks GAA Notes

Scór na nÓg

A large Kilbeggan contingent travelled to St Patrick’s Hall in Delvin last Sunday to support our four acts in the first of this year’s Scór na nÓg semi-finals.

While our Ballad Group made it through to the county final in The Downs on Sunday week, unfortunately the results didn’t go our way in the other disciplines. As disappointing as this was, we could not have been any prouder of our young performers who were brilliant on stage and put in a huge amount of work under their mentors Geraldine and Fiona Fennell over the past month or so.

Despite being ill last weekend, John Tehan acquitted himself very well in the Solo Singing, as did Lisa Coffey in the Recitation. John was also part of the Ballad Group along with Martha O’Grady, Ava Rochford, Tadhg McNamee and Darragh McDonnell which will fly the flag for us on county final day.

Our Novelty Act group comprising Darragh McDonnell, Martha O’Grady, Emily-Rose Scally, Lisa Coffey, Tadhg McNamee, John Tehan, Ava Rochford and six-year-old Abaigeal Scally were excellent but, much to the surprise of many in the audience, didn’t make it through with The Downs and Delvin getting the nod instead. But no doubt they will learn from the experience and come back stronger next year.

Ladies football

We would like to wish our outgoing ladies football manager Martin Maher every success in his new role as a Longford coach / selector. Longford played Westmeath in a challenge match last weekend in which our very own Jill Draper and Ayesha Roche featured for the Lake County at centre back and midfield respectively.

Lotto

Last week's lucky numbers were 14, 17, 20 and 27. No Match 3 winners, draw winners were Katie Cunningham and Emily Smith. This week's draw takes place in McNamara’s with the jackpot standing at €12,150. Tickets, costing €2, can be purchased locally. Thank you for your continued support.

The late Sean Davey

There was sadness last week at the news of the passing of Sean Davey. A native of Ballymote, Co. Sligo, Sean had lived in Ardnaglue for most of his 92 years, He was a brilliant singer and a great character who endeared himself to everyone who knew him. Sean was extremely fit for his age and a day never passed that he didn’t bring his little dog for a walk up to the motorway bridge near his home. Sympathy is extended to the Davey family.

Road Race success

Congratulations to former player Pauric Ennis who won the Hollymount International 10K Road Race in Co. Mayo last Sunday in a superb time of 33:56.
