Under 16 'B' County Final

Southern Gaels 3 - 11   Delvin   0 - 5

Southern Gaels capture the Under 16 title with a memorable performance in Lakepoint Park Mullingar last Sunday when they accounted for Delvin. The game was evenly balanced for much of the opening half and was 0-2 each after the first quarter. Gaels then pulled ahead with a series of points from Chulainn Dowd and Johnny Martin. A goal from Rory Kilgarriff just before half time put daylight between the sides with Gaels leading by 1-7 to 0-3 at half time. Gaels defended well in the next quarter with Ryan Fallon, Cian O'Sullibháin and Evan Farrell to the fore. Midway through the half a Sean Murphy goal gave the Athlone side a good measure of control and Dowd, Luke Whelan, and the energetic Tom Kelleher added points. Delvin were restricted to two points from frees in the half as Cian Geary and Cian Mc Carthy closed down Delvin's best efforts. Gaels finished the scoring with a excellent goal from Paul Hogan who joined the fray in the closing stages. Conn O'Hara's puck outs were a feature of the game and Alban Cepi turned in a fine hour at center-field.

Well done to the management team of Tom Murphy, Cormac O'Sullibháin, Martin Geary and Tony O'Keeffe who worked so hard with the group all year.
