John Gaffey believes Garrycastle can do well in Leinster

Garrycastle defender John Gaffey believes they are in a ‘good place’ ahead of the Leinster club SFC.

Following an enthralling Westmeath final which saw Garrycastle come back from an eight-point half-time deficit to lift the title, they can now look forward to the provincials.

The newly crowned Westmeath champions take on their Longford counterparts Killoe Emmet Og in the opening round of the provincial campaign on Sunday, October 27th.

“I think we’re in a very good place for it because we have been through an awful lot of tough battles this year and I think we know where we stand tactically and as a team,” Gaffey told the Westmeath Independent.

“When things don’t work in our favour, I think we know how to turn it around. We know how to hang in there. Winter football in theory should suit us better but every game in Leinster is a different sort of a battle. It’s a pure slog so I’m looking forward to it now, I can’t wait.”
