Rosemount Club Notes

August 19, 2019

Gaa: We took on Shandonagh last Saturday evening in TEG Cusack Park in the final group 2 game in the Senior Football Championship. It was a winner takes all battle with the winner qualifying for the quarter finals. With a lot on the line our lads definitely ceased the opportunity and the result in the end was never in doubt. We started very brightly with points from Sean Pettit, Deccie Mullen and a goal from Sean Pettit. As the half wore on Shandonagh began to come at us , but our defense was brilliant throughout and tigerish defending kept the Shandonagh attack at bay. We got a crucial score just before half time when we won a penalty which Sean Pettit dispatched to the corner of the net. This left us ahead at half time by 2.06 to 0.05. The second half began with us having the wind behind our backs , so we began to look to get a few scores early. We suffered a set back 5 minutes into the second half when Referee Barry Kelly issued David Malynn a straight red card for a late challenge. To there credit the lads didn’t panic and managed to keep there composure. We had leaders all over the field. We pushed on to finish strong with goals from Lorcán Daly and Sean Pettit to seal a win by 4.09 to Shandonagh’s 0.08. The win left us top of our group , and undefeated in the 5 matches. We now qualify for the quarter finals of the senior championship for the first time in over 20 years. Special mention to Ben O’Brien & Ciaran Maxwell who made their debuts at senior level having come on as substitutes. Well done to all the panel of players and to the management, and back room team. Onwards we go to the quarter finals. Commiserations to Shandonagh who had a good campaign overall on there first outing at senior level.
