Westmeath manager Jack Cooney admits that he doesn’t know what Ray Connellan’s plans are when he leaves Australia.

The former Westmeath footballer has announced that he is leaving Essendon’s Victoria Football League side and returning home.

However, Cooney told the Westmeath Independent that Connellan may be planning on travelling before settling in Ireland.

“I really admired the fact that he pursued his ambitions of playing in the AFL. I only heard the news myself so I’m not sure what his plans are. He may be planning on taking an extended break in Australia,” said Cooney.

“I’m sure the general view from an Athlone and Westmeath GAA perspective is we will be delighted to welcome him home when he decides to return.”
