U16 Girls

The U16 girls played the 3rd game of their championship away to Athlone on Tuesday last. In fine conditions it was a very high scoring game. The teams were level at half time after the  Shandonagh ladies had a purple patch before the break. It was end to end in the 2nd half and Shandonagh took the lead but were overhauled by a strong Athlone finish to lose on a score line of 8-14 to 6-12. Well done to all the squad who played their part in a committed display. Training again Tuesday.

U14 Girls

Last Wednesday evening the U14 girls produced a superb battling performance in a very tough match. They were losing at half-time by about 2 goals, the girls battled well to dominate the second half. Tyrellspass scored 1 point in the second half, and Shandonagh ran out winners on a score of 4-11 to 3-2. Very proud of all 21 girls.

ACFL Div.1 vs St Lomans (Friday 17th May)

A bright but damp evening with a wet pitch would ensure fast ball off the surface and teams would have to be switched on and spot on with their passing. Shandonagh started the first half sharper with Alan Hickey first on the score sheet. Kevin Boyle followed up with 3 points, 2 of which were frees. Mickey Boyle was next on the score sheet with a point that came as a result of fantastic teamwork up the pitch. The hard work ethos of the Shan men was very evident at this stage of the game and the well organised defence was forcing Lomans to shoot from distance. Conor McCrossan popped a point over with his fist after a very threatening run in from the right wing.
Next up was the first goal of the game which started right back in Shandonaghs back corner. Pressurising and controlled tackling gave possession back to Shandonagh and the ball went all the way up field via the right wing before crossing into the arms of Cormac Coyne who nearly put a hole in last years new nets. That was a joy to see as it was a magnificent team goal.
The second goal of the first half was taken by a very alert Mickey Boyle who pulled a short falling 45 from the air before rocketing a shot past the Lomans defence.
The only negative in the first half was a few too many wides which will need to be corrected by the players.

Half time score was Shandonagh 2-07, St Lomans 0-03

The second half started as the first half ended with Shandonagh continuing to work hard for each other. Another very pleasing aspect of this game was the communication between the team and no man was left without an option at any stage when he had the ball.
Cormac Coyle opened with a point from play before Kevin Boyle converted a penalty when a Shandonagh man was taken down inside the box. It was this first 20 minutes of the second half that Cormac Coyne displayed the threat and potential he possesses with some powerful runs straight towards the goal mouth past any would be tackler. Coyne added 2 more points
during this half with the second from a 45. Kevin Boyle also added to his tally with 2 points from play.
Legs had to be tired this evening as the amount of work put in by each and every player was a joy to watch. Yes St Lomans are missing some great players but Shandonagh were also missing a few proving they are building a nice bit of depth on their panel which will always be needed for senior football.

Full time score was Shandonagh 3-12, St Lomans 0-07
