Dean Rock went down a treat at underage registration evening

Dublin star Dean Rock proved a huge hit at our underage registration evening in the Kilbeggan Parish Centre last Wednesday.

Accompanied by his equally famous father and former Westmeath manager Barney, the five-time All-Ireland winning forward made time for everyone, chatting away freely and posing for numerous photographs and selfies with both young and old. He also fielded questions from the children in the audience before speaking of the benefits of participation in sport. All the while, Martina and Marie were busy registering young players for the coming season.

We would like to thank the Parish Centre committee for serving up refreshments and Fr Brendan Corrigan for the use of the facility. We would also like to thank all the parents and kids who turned out in such large numbers and, of course, Dean Rock for giving of his time so generously.

Dean has promised to return to giving a coaching session later in the year and we’re looking forward to that already.

U16s make winning start

A small piece of history was made last Sunday morning in Kilbeggan when, for the first time in almost two decades, we fielded on our own at U16 level.

Indeed, it was the first time we fielded on our own in any of the age groups between U10 and U20 level since amalgamating with St Joseph’s in the early 2000s. And we marked the occasion with a win over Multyfarnham to get our Division 3 (13-a-side) league campaign off to the perfect start. Well done to what was a very young team and their mentors Larry Claffey, Tom Ward and Martin Nannery.

Team: Patrick Isake; Ryan Dinnegan, Jamie Fuller; Brian Egan, Senan Claffey, Ciaran Coffey; Micheal Coffey, Padraig Carton; Jack Mullins, Aaron Nannery, Joey Nannery; Aaron O’Brien, Kieran Egan. Subs: Arthur O’Rourke and Conor Mullins.

Lotto

Last week's lucky numbers were 11, 21, 25 and 28. Louise Colgan, Horseleap was the only Match 3 winner. This week's draw takes place in Paddy Ryan’s, Horseleap with the jackpot standing at €15,000. Tickets, costing €2, can be purchased locally. Thank you for your continued support.

Scor Sinsear

The Westmeath Scor Sinsear Tráth na gCeist final takes place this Thursday, February 21 at 8pm in the Greville Arms Hotel, Mullingar. Last year, we entered two teams in the table quiz and it would be great if we could repeat that this year.
