Intermediate Championship

Moate All Whites 1-10

Milltownpass 0-13

With both sides unbeaten the result here would decide who topped the group and it was our opponents who started stronger playing against the stiff breeze. With Ruairi Cunningham winning good ball around the middle and Alex Ryan finding his targets on his kick outs we had no shortage of opportunities but our conversion rate was very poor and we went in at the break with it all to do against the wind in the second half 0-6 to 0-4 down. However as so often happens the work rate increases and the decision making improves and we started to play much better and with our backs starting to get on top we played some good stuff with Gavin Murray putting in a tremendous shift all over the field and his namesake Gareth also starting to make an impression in his first start in the championship for 2 years after his injury. Once again our subs made a big impact with Eoghan Kelly proving a handful, Paul Sheridan asking all sorts of questions of a tiring Milltownpass defence and James Bracken taking a nice score and then being hauled down for a penalty after patient build up play and which Rob Forde coolly slotted home to cap another fine performance. Mention also to Paul Gorman who put the shackles on the Milltownpass danger man when the ball was coming in long in the second half and to Brendan Arigho and Sean Bracken who came out with ball after ball. We had eased into a 3 point lead but in fairness to Milltownpass they reeled off the last 3 points to earn the draw which means we are now down to play Milltown next weekend in the quarter final.

Speedy recovery to captain Eoghan Dalton who had to come off early with a facial injury.

PITCH STEWARDS

Many thanks to the club members who gave of their time over the Summer to steward in Hogan park at the rounds of the Championship that we hosted. In particular to Eddie, Doe and Graham who have turned out the facilities immaculately for the games much to the appreciation of the various visiting clubs and spectators. Also to Ger for running the shop so smoothly and keeping all fed and watered.

U14 Div 1 Semi Final

Moate 5-11

Lilliput Gaels 2-07

Lilliput Gael travelled to Hogan Park on Saturday afternoon to take on the home side in the semi-final of the under 14A championship. A win would set up a final meeting with Coralstown/Kinnegad.

Lilliput started well and quickly established a 6 point lead. As the first half wore on Moate worked their way back into the match going in a couple of points up at half time. The second half was competitive however Moate finished well to run out comprehensive winners at the end.

Well done to both teams who served up a very entertaining hour of football.

U16 Sevens Tournament

Last Saturday morning Moate travelled to take part in the Shandonagh seven's tournament. With 8 teams competing Moate finished top of their group and then had a narrow win over St. Lomans in the semi-final. In the final Moate lost by 2 points to the hosts Shandonagh with Reece Jones producing a fine finish for the Moate goal. Thank you to Shandonagh GAA for a very well run tournament.

Annual Street League

Our Street League got off to a great start on Friday last with a huge turnout of players and supporters. Some great football on display and, as always with Street League, very enjoyable to watch the sheer determination and enthusiasm from our youngest players.

Games continue each Friday with Finals Day on Sunday 7th October.
