Condolences
To the McLoughlin family on the death of Essie (née Boylan), 9 Glenview, Castlepollard, who died on Wednesday 16th May. Essie died peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family after a long illness bravely borne. To here sons Joseph and Sean, her daughters Eileen and Shirley, her brother Paddy (England), relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends we offer our deepest sympathies.
With Essies passing Castlepollard Hurling Club lost one of its oldest and most dedicated supporter. The surname McLoughlin has been synonymous with Castlepollard hurling for many years: both her sons, Sean and JoJo represented club and county and fullfilled roles as selectors. Her daughters, Eileen and Shirley were avid camogie players for 'Pollard and St Munna's over the years and her husband Danny, was Club President when he sadly died in July 2013.  Essie was always willing to help out the Club whether it was selling club raffle tickets, washing jerseys making sandwiches she always answered the call for volunteers.  Essie was a character, and very well liked by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was never afraid to speak her mind to any of our up and comming players but always willing to jump to their defence on match day. Throughout the 80's, 90 and 00's Essie had a cottage industry making Pollard flags, headbands and bunting ahead of the numerous underage Finals.  She worked skillfully to ensure Glenview and all Pollard supporters were colourfully decked out ahead of all Finals over the years.    Her remains were taken from her residence in Glenview to St. Michael's Church, a 'Pollard jersey adorning her coffin.  A guard of honour composed of past and present members of Castlepollard Hurling Club greeted the cortege. Funeral Mass took place on Friday 18th May, following which her remains were interred in the local cemetery. The large numbers who attended her removal and funeral Mass were testimony to Essie's popularity in the town and surrounding areas.    May She Rest In Peace.  Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.
