Gaa -

ACFL Div 1: We welcomed Mullingar Shamrocks to the park last Saturday evening for our latest league outing. After a good win and performance the previous round vs The Downs where we collected two points , our lads set about looking for two more.  Our lads started brightly , and had the better of the early exchanges. We threatened right from the off with Deccie Mullen getting us going kicking a fine long range point off his right foot. There was real intensity in the game from both sides from start to finish, and it was end to end with Mullingar playing a high tempo game as well. Deccie Mullen kicked a free, but Mullingar responded with a point from play and two more from frees to leave the game eagerly poised at half time. We came out the second half , and struck what we thought was the important score when a long ball by Shane Tone found Davey Tone in space , he then turned his man and finished to the bottom of the net . Mullingar like all good teams looked to respond immediately, they scored a fantastic goal as well as kicking two frees to get themselves back in the game. They then hit a killer blow themselves with former Westmeath player Donal O'Donoghue finding space in our box to finish to the back of the net to put Mullingar one point in front with time up. It was last chance saloon for our lads, we won possession taking the ball down the field , we were patient and eventually found Sean Pettit in space who fired over the equalizing point with the last kick to leave it a draw match in the end 1.11 to Mullingar's 2.08.

ACFL Div 5: On Sunday last our Div 5 team took on Tubberclair in what was a crunch battle in the race for promotion to div 4. It was a tight , physical affair , with difficult playing conditions due to rain before the game. We got the perfect start with a fine goal by Ben Cox after five minutes. This was quickly followed up with a point from play by Cathal Byrne after a strong run forward. Tubberclair to be fair kept coming at us and caused us plenty of problems. We went in at half time 2 points down, but we were still very much in the game. The second started with both sides trading scores. Lorcan Daly kicked a great score from far out on the left , to keep us in the game. Sean Pettit entered the fray , and kicked a fine long range point, as well as a free to level the game with five minutes to go. The introduction of Shane Tone, Kieran Hanevy and Cathal Daly gave us the extra edge in the last five minutes. Darren Connell stood up to slot over a 45 , and David Fox finished the game off by kicking two long range points into the wind to give us a 3 point win by 1.13 to 1.10.  Well done lads on two very good performances.
