First Loss in League: St Joseph's 3-07 Ballymore 2-15

We made the short journey to neighbours Ballymore on Sunday 20 May 2018 seeking to maintain our unbeaten start to the league but unfortunately came a cropper on the day going under by a margin of five points after a topsy turvey sort of game. The literal game of two halves saw St Joseph's hold sway on the scoreboard in the opening half as we led by five points at the break having briefly held a nine point lead at one stage as three first half goals were fired in. The five point margin was held until ten minutes from the end when a Ballymore goal fired up the home side who gained momentum to finish the game strongly. Both sides struggled in slippy and windy conditions early on with Ballymore having slightly the better of things in the opening stages. However, we have been playing well in our games this year and in a blistering ten minute spell midway through the half scored three goals. Jerry Gleeson grabbed the first responding quickest to a mishit pass to fire low to the net. A second followed in quick succession with Niall Moran hitting in a similar effort before the third through Aaron Mc Donnell put St Joseph's 3-4 to 0-4 ahead after 20 minutes. Ballymore regained their composure with two quick points before a Ross Elliffe point concluded our first half tally but three successive points were important for our opponents as they had wind advantage for the second half. Ballymore opened the second half with a point but we responded with a pointed free as the margin remained at five points in our favour.  A Jerry Gleeson point in the 10th minute was sandwiched between two points for Ballymore. It was disappointing the way we lost out in this game as the score stood at 3-7 to 0-12 at that stage as it was our last score of the game. A goal for Ballymore after 14 minutes brought the margin to a point before they equalised in the 17th minute. A scoreless period of ten minutes ensued as we tried to regain the initiative but from a promising move we had in the 27th minute, the home side broke downfield for a decisive goal which game James Kenny no chance in goals and two late points added in injury time saw the spoils go our opponent's way on this occasion but there are plenty more games to come in what is a tight Division. Best wishes to Hugh Boyle who travels over to San Francisco for the summer months.

Horseleap/Streamstown Community Fundraiser

The Horseleap/Streamstown Community Association ran a Race Night fundraiser in the Beech tree on Saturday the 19th May and it was a great success. They would like to thank all the people who sponsored races, their support is very much appreciated. Also a sincere thanks to all of you who bought & sold Horses, Jockeys, Trainers and Owners for races. The race night was part of the overall fundraising for the development of the community centre and grounds. With the acquisition of the neighbouring land we can now develop the land into something special for the entire community. Your help and support is always appreciated.
