Crookedwood GAA Notes

April 16, 2018

ACHL D1; Crookedwood 1-12 Delvin 0-16. We took on Delvin in round 2 of the senior league. Our meetings with Delvin are always close affairs and so it proved again with Delvin prevailing by the minimum after an entertaining game. Delvin had the upper hand for most of the game but the lads fought back in the 2nd half and could've snatched a win at the end. Team; A.Mitchell, D.Grifferty, K.Orme, E.Murray, N.Kiernan, E.Nally, J.Nally, S.McGovern(1-2), Andy Boyhan, D.Hyland, B.O'Mara (0-7), B.McCarthy (0-1), C.Savage (0-1), N.Yourell (0-1), R.Crowley. Subs: T.Brennan for E.Murray, S.Savage for A.Boyhan.

ACHL D1; Crookedwood 1-12 Lough Lene Gaels 1-14. In round 3 we suffered another narrow defeat, this time at the hands of the Gaels. Indeed, at full time the sides were all square but our more experienced opponents picked off two points in injury time to take the spoils. Team; A.Mitchell, D.Grifferty, K.Orme, E.Murray, N.Kiernan (0-1), S.Savage (0-1), D.Hyland, E.Nally, Andy Boyhan, B.McLoughlin (0-2), S.McGovern, N.Yourell, R.Crowley, B.O'Mara (1-7), C.Savage

ACHL D3; Crookedwood  2-18 Southern Gaels 1-11

Our second string made the longish journey to Athlone to take on the home side in round 2 of Division 3 and it proved to be a worthwhile trip as we took the two points on offer after a good performance. Playing against the stiff breeze in the 1st half we went for the half-time oranges three points to the good 1-8 to 1-5, the highlight being a well taken team goal finished superbly to the net by Brendan McCarthy. The strong wind at our backs ensured we ran out comfortable winners against a gallant Gaels team that hurled up until the final whistle Sub Chris Gilbert chipped in with 1-1 after his introduction. The most noteworthy positives from the game were a score of 2-12 from play and the 100% effort from the lads. Team; A.Mitchell, J.Kiernan, K.Orme, T.Brennan, J.Nally, E.Murray, D.Hyland, Andy Boyhan, N.Kiernan (0-1), C.Savage (0-1), S.Savage (0-6), B.McCarthy (1-3), R.Crowley (0-3), G.Brennan (0-3), C.Yourell. Subs; C.McGovern for C.Yourell, C.Gilbert (1-1) for A.Boyhan, J.J. Brennan for C.Savage. G.McGovern.
