Leinster Under-13 League Final: Mullingar Shamrocks 6-6 Raheens (Kildare) 2-4

Leinster champions has a nice ring to it and that is the title our Under-13 footballers now lay claim to after this fine victory against Raheens, from Kildare. On their way to collecting this title, the team defeated Mount Leinster Rangers (the marathon journey was worthwhile), Dunshaughlin, Tullamore, our neighbours St Loman's and finally Raheens in the wonderful setting of the Abbotstown National Sports Centre.

In the final, Mullingar Shamrocks began slowly despite the assistance of a strong wind and after John Ryan opened the scoring with a point Raheens responded with a goal and held this 1-0 to 0-1 lead into ten minutes of the opening half. Ryan Kelly at this stage stamped his authority on the match and scored two superb individual goals. Shane Ormsby pointed brilliantly from a difficult long range free and followed almost immediately with a superb goal; In this twelve-minute scoring spree Mullingar Shamrocks established a 3-2 to 1-0 lead; The final score of the half belonged to John Ryan who pointed a free on the stroke of half-time. Shamrocks restarted in spectacular fashion and from the throw-in Shane Ormsby and John Ryan combined to create a chance for Matt Shaw who pointed and almost immediately Ormsby and Ryan again combined, and this time John Ryan goaled. These were two vital scores and practically sealed the victory for Shamrocks. One of the notable features of the second half was the great combined play of Ormsby and Ryan in particular, but the team in general was excellent after the resumption. The fielding of Shane Ormsby was also worthy of mention as was the restarts by our two goalkeepers William and Eoin Doran. Matt Shaw scored his second point, Raheens scored three unanswered points (4-5 to 1-3) before Ryan Kelly completed his hat trick with his third goal. Gavin Pierce blasted a great shot to the net and then pointed to complete the Shamrocks tally (6-6) Raheens penalty goal proved to be the last score of the game and the final whistle secured a great team victory for Mullingar Shamrocks. Well done to all twenty-two players who secured the victory and to the team mentors Derek Sheridan, Daragh Maguire, Tom Ormsby and Robbie Boyle who have worked so hard with this group of football-wise, and talented group of young footballers over the last two or three seasons. Let's hope all are still wearing the Mullingar Shamrocks colours in three or four seasons from now.

Ladies Gaelic Football Div.1 Senior League: Milltown 1-16 Mullingar Shamrocks 3-3

Our senior Ladies Gaelic Football team delivered another battling performance against Milltown in their Division 1 League match on Friday night. Milltown opened with a pair of points but in the tenth minute Niamh Kennedy was on hand to finish a Karen Hegarty free to the net to put Shamrocks ahead. Milltown added three points to the board before Casey McDermott pointed for Shamrocks after a great run by Anna Jones. Lauren McCormack pulled off a great save to deny Milltown a goal scoring opportunity. Karen Hegarty for once escaped the double marking shackles and pointed but at the interval Milltown held a 0-9 to 1-2 lead. On the restart Milltown added 1-2 to their total but Shamrocks responded well with Anna Jones powering through for a goal and Gemma Kerrigan adding a point to reduce the deficit (1-11 to 2-3). Milltown added two points before Anna Jones blasted a great goal to raise the hopes of the visitors (1-13 to 3-3). This proved to be Shamrocks final score and Milltown added three more points before referee Shane Maher blew the final whistle. Although beaten and Milltown were clearly the better team on the night, the Mullingar Shamrocks footballers had plenty of positives to take from the night on their journey back to Mullingar.

Under-16 Football League: Mullingar Shamrocks 4-13 The Downs 0-8

Following the example set by our senior LGF on Sunday evening our Under-16 boys produced one of their finest displays since they came together as a group in their match with The Downs and reversed a loss to the black and ambers earlier in the season in the process. This was not an occasion for singling out individual performances as in Springfield on Monday night we witnessed a great team performance during which eight different players posted scores led by Rory O'Sullivan Sexton (2-2) from mid-field and Zach Aherne (1-3) playing at centre-forward.

Mullingar Shamrocks: Sean Óg Hynes; Ciarán Luby, Matthew Siode, Daniel Chukwuemekg; Niall Ouchbakou (0-1), Mark Flynn (0-2), Thomas Turus; Emmett Walsh and Rory O'Sullivan Sexton (2-2); William Adzangoa, Zach Aherne (1-3), Andrew Shaw (0-3); Brian Farrell (0-1), Keith Whaley (1-0), Oliver McNamara. Also: Daithí Martin, Mark Shaw (0-1), Adam Boyle and Matas.
