Ballinagore GAA Notes

February 12, 2018

Scór Sinsear

We enjoyed a great nights entertainment in Ballymore on Saturday evening at the semi-finals of this years Senior Scór competition. Ballinagore had entries in Solo Singing, Recitation and Novelty Act. Shane Heraty had a busy evening competing in all three acts! In the solo singing, Shane gave a wonderful rendition of The Banks of the Moy while in the recitation, he had the audience in his hands with Seamus O'Rourkes monologue "When the only starter was soup". In the Novelty Act, our first time to enter this competition in a number of years, we had Kevin and Deirdre Kennedy, Aisling Heraty, Aisling King, Kevin Deegan, Valerie Seery, JJ Hussey and Shane Heraty and they delivered a very polished sketch called "The Ballinagore Set". On the evening, all three acts were successful and have qualified for the county final in The Downs on Saturday 24th February. Well done to all the competitors from the various clubs and we send our best wishes to our own acts in the final.

Scór na nÓg All Ireland Finals

Ballinagore are proud to represent Westmeath and Leinster in two Scór disciplines on Saturday 17th February in the All Ireland Finals in Sligo. In the Amhránaíocht Aonar (Solo Singing), Jemma Seery will take to the stage with her version of the beautiful traditional song, Craigie Hills. Our table quiz team of Mary Reynolds, Erin Heeney, Peter Reynolds and Darragh Seery have put in the hard yards also over the passed number of months with mentor Shane Heraty doing trojan work in the background as per usual. Both acts are "class acts" in our eyes and no matter the outcome in Sligo, they have represented out club with the utmost pride and honour. We wish both the very best of good luck and hope they enjoy this memorable occasion.

Our opening league game for 2018 vs neighbours Tyrrellspass didn't go ahead on Sunday morning as our opponents were unable to field. We are fixed to play Garrycastle in the 2nd round this Sunday, 18th February, at 11:30 in Ballinagore.

Ballinagore Tidy Towns

Our tidy towns committee was formed in 1995 and over the years, through hard work and perseverance, this small committee have transformed the appearance of our lovely village through many improvement projects. This work has been rewarded with a continuous upward curve in our annual tidy towns competition results. It is with regret that we hear of the retirement of two long serving committee members, Maree Baker and Anthony Marshall. Both have been leading promoters of tidy towns and are a credit to the community. We wish both a happy retirement and well deserved break. With two vacancies now available, the tidy towns committee are looking for new members to come on board to help continue the good work Maree and Anthony have carried out. If you are proud of our picturesque village and would like to help out, please contact 086 3323133 (evening time number). Please consider getting involved and keeping our village beautiful.
