St Joseph's club notes

February 12, 2018

Senior Scór

St Josephs were represented in three events in the first of this year's Senior Scór Semi Finals on Friday 9th February in Ballymore Community Centre. First on Stage was Ciaran Reynolds in the Solo Singing with Deirdre Robbins next up in the Recitation. Both Ciaran and Deirdre were joined by Hugo Slevin and Thomas Pettit for the Leiriu and we were successful in qualifying in the Recitation and Leiriu categories. Both of these events were won by the club last year so it would be good if we could retain those events at the final on Saturday 24th February. The club will also be represented in the Table Quiz final which is on Thursday 22nd February in The Greville Arms. Finally, we are delighted to wish Hugo Slevin well in next weeks All Ireland Scór na nÓg final in Sligo where he will be the Fear an Tí for the final. A great honour for the club and of course for Hugo.

Minor League

The first underage game of the year for Kilbeggan/St Josephs was due to be in Kilbeggan on Sunday morning but did not materialise as our opponents Inny Shamrocks were unable to field on the day.

St Joseph's underage registration

St Joseph's held our own Underage registration evening on Saturday 10th February at the Horseleap Streamstown Community Centre with a large number attending on the night. Thanks to all who helped out with the registration process and those who could not attend are asked to return forms to the mentors as soon as possible but before the 1st March which is the deadline.

St Joseph's Ladies AGM

We had a well-attended AGM on Sunday 4th Feb last.  Our new executive committee is as follows, Chairperson - Kevin Killian, Vice chair - Anslem Conlon, Treasurer - Pat Conlon, Vice Treasurer - Corrina Corcoran, Secretary - Maura Conlon, PRO - Michael Pettit. We have a committee of over 12 individuals committed to the development of Ladies Football in the St Joseph's area.

St Joseph's Ladies New Trainer

We had a Players meeting Saturday 10th where we took the opportunity to introduce our new trainer Gerry Feery to the team. We wish Gerry the very best of luck in the year ahead. Training begins next Saturday the 17th at Horseleap/Streamstown community field and all are welcome.

St Joseph's Ladies Jersey Launch and Medal Ceremony

St Joseph's Ladies launched their new jerseys and presented medals for the Division 4 league win accomplished in 2017 at a special event held at Horseleap/Streamstown Community Centre last Saturday night the 3rd February. A great crowd turned up on the night to join in the celebrations which not only acknowledged the accomplishments of the past but looked forward to the future with optimism as our New Jerseys were unveiled. We would like to thank all our sponsors who gave generously over the year which allowed us to not only fund New Jerseys but a complete revamp of all club gear from Half Zips to Shorts and socks. There were many sponsors, too many to mention but a special thanks to the Ross and McCormack Family, Alan & Marie Reid and Larry & Eddie Scally for their generous contributions.

As the Jerseys were privately funded it afforded us a unique opportunity to highlight charities close to everyone's heart in the club. On the left sleeve we carry the logo of AWARE, who work with people suffering with depression and Bipolar disorders, on the right sleeve we carry the logo of the Pink Ribbon which is the international symbol of breast cancer awareness. Where better to highlight this than on a Ladies team Jersey and finally on the front panel we are proud to portray the logo of LARCC, cancer support charity. LARCC provide a range of services to help and support people living with cancer - for cancer patients and their families and supporters.

Through counselling, Nurse Support, Telephone Support / Helpline, Bereavement Support and Children's Services. Bernie McHugh General Manager of LARCC spoke on the night and expressed her gratitude to St Joseph's ladies for highlighting the great work that LARCC are involved in, and for the gift of the Logo to continue to do so. We would like to thank the McCormack sisters who came on the night to present the medals. Edel, Joanne and Mairead were on the Westmeath Camogie team that made their first visit to Croke Park one to remember as they claimed their maiden Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Premier Junior title, beating Dublin, no less. It was a unique fete that there were 3 sisters on the team who are originally from Streamstown.

Edel and Joanne presented medals to the following on the night, Carmel Carrol, Ellie Conway(Accepted by her sister Joyce), Roisin Kealy, Karen Keegan, Caoimhe Kelly (Accepted by her sister Katie), Roisin Killian, Ciara Maxwell, Aisling McCormack, Clodagh McCormack, Corrina McCormack, Lisa McCormack, Ann Marie McDonnell, Lauren McDonnell (Accepted by her sister Ava), Marie McDonnell, Deirdre Ann Nally, Erin Pettit, Emma Reid (C), Katie Reid, Orla Robbins, Sinead Robbins, Edwina Scally. Finally, a big thanks to the outgoing management team Stephen Keegan, Noel Robbins, Kevin Killian and Michael Pettit and a big thanks to Helen Killian as our physio for the year!

Kilbeggan/St Joseph's Underage Girls AGM
