There was a mixed feeling after the game. Some players were relieved that we had another chance, others were disappointed we hadn't won YOU HAD TO BE HAPPY WITH YOUR OWN PERFORMANCE: I should have got a few more scores, as I was hooked or blocked quite a lot YOU SCORED A HAT-TRICK OF GOALS IN THAT GAME AND NOTCHED 3-4 IN THE SEMI-FINAL VICTORY OVER ANTRIM. YOU OBVIOUSLY ARE A YOUNG MAN WITH A KNACK FOR SCORING GOALS: It doesn't matter who scores as long as Waterford win. Any of the forwards are capable of scoring goals and points to win the game YOUR IMPRESSION OF OFFALY FULL BACK KEVIN KINEHAN? Very good hurler who marks tightly and is also very sporting and clean ANY EXPERIENCE TO DATE WITH THE WATERFORD SENIORS? Played National League in 1990/91. Played against Clare and Limerick in this year's championship TELL US ABOUT YOUR CLUB: We won our first senior hurling title in 66 years last year. Since 1981 we have won 5 Under 14 county titles, 5 Under 16 county titles, 4 minor county titles, 2 Under 21 county titles, 8 Feile na nGael, 1 All-Ireland Feile na nGael. In 1990 we won a clean sweep of the underage county titles i.e. Under 14, 16,18, 21, Feile na nGael ARE LISMORE, THE HOLDERS, STILL IN THIS YEAR'S WATERFORD SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP? Yes YOU HAVE A NUMBER OF VERY HARD WORKING OFFICIALS IN THE CLUB, MEN LIKE BR. DORMER: Since Br. Dormer came to Lismore in 1980, we have won 26 underage titles in Waterford. He also taught or trained 9 of the team that won last year's senior championship for the first time in 66 years. His record speaks for itself WATERFORD HAD TERRIFIC SUPPORT IN NOWLAN PARK. HURLING INTEREST IN THE COUNTY MUST BE AT IT'S HIGHEST FOR YEARS: Waterford supporters must be without doubt the best in the county. Even before this year they always supported their team in big numbers THE MINORS WHO WENT DOWN DISAPPOINTINGLY TO GALWAY GOT A HUGE WELCOME HOME: There was something like 1,500 screaming Waterford people at Plunket Station when the team arrived home from Dublin IS CLUB HURLING IN WATERFORD STRONG? As strong as any other county in Ireland WHO ARE THE MEN BEHIND THIS SUCCESSFUL UNDER 21 TEAM? Peter Power, Joey Carton and Tony Mansfield WHO WOULD BE THE BETTER WATERFORD UNDER 21 PLAYERS - ANY WITH A BIG FUTURE AS SENIORS? All the Under 21 panel could have big futures as senior hurlers OFFALY ALSO HAVE SOME TERRIFIC PROSPECTS, PLAYERS LIKE JOHNNY DOOLEY, JOHN TROY AND BRIAN WHELEHAN: Offaly have a very good Under 21 team and I'm sure several of them will become senior hurlers with Offaly WATERFORD BEAT CORK IN THIS SUMMER'S UNDER 21 COMPETITION. KNOWING THE WATERFORD-CORK RIVALRY THIS MUST HAVE BEEN AN EXCITING VICTORY: It was a very close game all through, with only a couple of points between us for the full hour. It was a great feeling to beat Cork, especially as Waterford had never beaten Cork in Under 21 before YOU ARE GOING TO WIN ON SUNDAY: We will just have to wait and see Taken from Hogan Stand magazine 25th September 1992 Vol 2 No 74
