Michael Hurley nets one of his three goals for Cork against Tipperary

Cork will meet Limerick in next Saturday week’s McGrath Cup final after both sides came through their respective Round 2 clashes tonight.

The Rebels were rampant in their 3-19 to 0-14 hammering of Tipperary in Mallow, where Michael Hurley helped himself to a hat-trick of first-half goals for the hosts.

The Castlehaven clubman netted his first on the 15-minute mark before raising the umpire’s green flag again three minutes later to put Cork into an unassailable 2-8 to 0-3 against their flat Premier counterparts.

Points from Cian Dorgan and Peter O’Driscoll sandwiched Hurley’s hat-trick completion, leaving the scoreboard reading 3-11 to 0-5 at half-time and allowing Ronan McCarthy’s men to take their foot off the gas somewhat in the second-half.

Tipp did outscore their opponents 0-9 to 0-8 after the break, with Liam Boland their top scorer in contributing 0-7 over the 70 minutes, but it was the Leesiders that still cruised to victory, backing up last Sunday’s 22-point win over Kerry and therefore easing into this competition’s final.

In Dungarvan, Billy Lee’s Limerick side made their goals count in a 2-10 to 0-10 win against Waterford.

Danny Neville and Gerard Stack fired in the goals in the latter stages of each half, with the winners having to play the closing 15 minutes with 14 men after midfielder Josh Ryan was red-carded.

The Shannonsiders also saw sub Seamus O’Carroll sin-binned in the 57th minute before he returned to the field of play in the closing stages and sent over a point ahead of Stack’s injury-time major.
