Cahill positive despite defeat

Waterford boss Liam Cahill says he was happy with how his players applied themselves in yesterday’s Munster senior hurling league defeat to Cork.

The 1-17 to 1-13 loss in Dungarvan marked Cahill’s first game in charge in the Deise County and conceded afterwards that it was his team’s “basic hurling” that let them down over the 70 minutes.

"You'd have to be positive enough, I know we left a number of scores after us. I was really happy with how the boys applied themselves,” Cahill told the Irish Independent.

"We have very little hurling done and that was evident with the chances we left behind us. I'd be more concerned about the gilt-edged chances we gave Cork out of basic errors. That's something we have to look at.

"At this grade and at any grade, you have to nail the basics and today I thought our basic hurling let us down at vital times and created easy scoring chances for Cork."
