Ballygunner goalkeeper Stephen O’Keeffe has revealed that playing against clubs you know little about makes the Munster club SHC all the more exciting.

The Waterford champions are familiar with many teams in the province as they have been plying their trade in the Munster club on more occasions than most.

However, Sunday’s provincial decider against Tipperary champions Borris-Ileigh sees the sides meet for the first time ever.

Ballygunner are the raging hot favourites to defend their Munster crown, but O’Keeffe told the Waterford News & Star that facing a side that you never played against before, makes it a level playing field.

“That’s one of the aspects of the club championship when you get into provincials, there’s not a lot of familiarity between the teams,” said O’Keeffe.

“You can watch a recording of another team playing a match but you’ll never be as familiar as you would be with teams within the county.

“There’s a huge aspect of whoever brings their best game on the day when it gets to Munster.”
