Padraic Fanning says it meant a lot for Waterford to beat Galway in front of their home supporters at Walsh Park.

The city venue recently received the green light to host Waterford's two home games in this year's Munster SHC and Fanning was delighted with the support given to his team as they fought back to trump the Tribesmen in what was a repeat of the 2017 All-Ireland final.

"You could hear the buzz, it gives you a sample of what's coming. We were just happy to get a win in Waterford for our supporters and for everybody. That's a big thing," the Deise boss enthuses in the Irish Daily Star.

"There wasn't high stakes, but the psychological boost to win and to win in Walsh Park. A lot of people say we don't play well here, I thought we played well today."

Fanning praised his team for making good use of the elements in the second half after trailing by 10 points.

"I don't think anyone watching could realise how hard it was to play in those conditions in the first half and when you look at how hard Galway found the second half, it actually showed we did really well for a lot of the first half," he added.
