Director General hit with 'Corn Flakes' jibe

April 19, 2018

Cork held a 2-13 to 0-3 half-time advantage over Waterford at Pairc Ui Rinn.

Waterford minor football manager Tom Flynn believes that a complete overhaul of the provincial campaign is needed.

Flynn saw his charges lose to Cork by 27 points in the Munster MFC last week, compared to the 41 they lost by to the same opposition last year.

Speaking to the Waterford News & Star, Flynn states that his charges shouldn't be competing against the likes of Cork and Kerry.

He also added that the fact that both the sides mentioned would meet in the semi-final made a mockery of the championship and asked how the GAA Director General could be happy with the current format.

"We're in the wrong championship anyway for a start," stressed Flynn. "That's no reflection on the players in our squad. Facing Cork was the equivalent of putting a junior B team out against The Nire or Stradbally and telling them to try and win the senior championship in Waterford.

"How the Director General of the GAA can sit at home and eat his Corn Flakes in the morning and say 'I'm happy with the way things are at underage'. I don't know, that's his problem."
