The Waterford county board have finally decided to give Fraher Field a break from games after hosting over 14 championship games in the space of three weeks.

Last week, Ballygunner manager Fergal Hartley was incensed by the fact that his side had to play on the pitch after six championship games had already been played there the same weekend.

After three weeks over torrid abuse, none of this week's football championship games will be played at the venue.

The last few weeks have produced horrendous weather and the groundsmen at Fraher Field deserve great credit for having the pitch in such good order, but the overload of games has taken its toll.

Waterford have issues with their county grounds Walsh Park which is deemed not suitable for their hurlers Munster SHC round robin games this year.

Instead, the Déise must travel for all four games in the round robin series.
