Former New York chairman calls on GPA to respect US boards

December 11, 2019

Former New York chairman Laurence McGrath.

Laurence McGrath launched another broadside in the direction of the Gaelic Players Association before stepping down as New York GAA chairman last weekend.

McGrath has been vocal critic of the GPA’s fundraising activities in the ‘Big Apple’ and the Irish Independent reports that he reiterated his stance before handing over the reins to former secretary Joan Henchy following the completion of his five-year term.

"We really feel the GPA is coming into our territory and are giving nothing back. We'd be disappointed with that.”

The GAA and GPA are currently locked in negotiations over a new three-year deal between the two bodies.

McGrath added: “They just come to town, push you aside and don't communicate with you.

“We want Croke Park to step up to the plate in these negotiations and make a deal where US boards are respected.”
