FL4: Limerick and Sligo set early pace

February 02, 2020

Sligo captain Patrick O'Connor scored six points.

Limerick and Sligo are the only teams in Division 4 of the Allianz Football League with a 100% record after the first two rounds.

In Rathkeale, Limerick chalked up their fifth straight win of the year after edging out London on a 0-8 to 0-7 scoreline. The McGrath Cup champions led by 0-4 to 0-3 at the break before London goalkeeper Noel Maher's '45 levelled proceedings after the restart.

Limerick replied with scores from Jamie Lee, Seamus O'Carroll and Danny Neville before efforts from Liam Gavaghan and Sean Nolan reduced the deficit to the minimum. Lee and Kevin Rafferty traded scores in the closing stages as the hosts held on.

After going 18 months without a win, Sligo have now won twice in the space of a week. After breaking their duck against London last weekend, Paul Taylor's men pipped Antrim by 0-15 to 0-14 in Markievicz Park.

Patrick O'Connor played a captain's part for the winners by scoring 0-6, while veteran Paddy Cunningham posted 0-9 for the visitors, who never managed to get ahead in the second half after trailing by 0-8 to 0-9 at the break.

Davy Byrne celebrated his first win as Wicklow manager after they accounted for Waterford by 2-11 to 1-6 in Aughrim.

Substitute Eoin Darcy and Chris O'Brien bagged second half goals for the Gardenmen who had led by 0-8 to 1-1 at the break, with Darragh Corcoran netting for the Deise.
