All-Ireland club JFC quarter-final: Geehan double sink McCurtain's

December 08, 2019

Monaghan club Blackhill have qualified for the All-Ireland club JFC semi-finals.

Blackhill (Monaghan) 2-11

Thomas McCurtain's (London) 0-10

Michael Geehan netted twice as Ulster champions Blackhill came through a tough test against Thomas McCurtain's in Ruislip to progress to the last four of the All-Ireland club JFC.

The scoreline is harsh on the All-Britian champions who trailed by just three points in injury-time before the Monaghan men finally put the result beyond doubt with a Tommy Geehan point and Michael Geehan's second major at the death.

Niall Coffey had opened the scoring for the London club before Geehan raised his first green flag from a penalty in the ninth minute. Points from Hugh Byrne (two), Jason Finnegan and Michael Geehan extended the winners' lead to 1-4 to 0-2 before Colm O'Neill and Coffey pulled back scores to leave McCurtain's trailing by 0-5 to 1-6 at the break.

The home side twice narrowed the gap to a goal in the second half through John Winters and Conor Murphy, but despite losing Hugh Byrne to a second yellow card, Blackhill finished with a flourish to keep their All-Ireland dream alive.
