Thomas McCurtains club notes

July 02, 2019

Our Footballers claimed the Shiels Cup in a pulsating final on Friday night. The first half was played at a frantic pace and McCurtains looked the better of the teams as they stormed into a commanding five point lead in the first 15 minutes. Brendans finally found their mark with some well taken scores and some wayward shooting by the Macs allowed them to close the gap to two by the break.

The second half started in the same fashion as the first. McCurtains built up a five point lead again before St Brendans McMahon slipped passed the Macs rear guard and rifled the ball to the back of the net to leave two between them again. That was as close as it would get as McCurtains reasserted their dominance in midfield with Danny Ryan, Tommy Clarke and the McGuiggan brothers controlling the game before Conor Murphy blasted a goal after a fantastic flowing move with 10 minutes to go. A harsh second yellow for Cathal Moran saw McCurtains reduced to 14 men for the closing stages but they showed great composure to see out the game.

Huge well done to Jamie Moran, Fergus O'Sullivan and Daire Daly who were part of the South London Feile team at the weekend. They made it all the way to the final before losing out to a very strong Kilmacud Crokes team. All the lads did their club proud.

The games are really coming thick and fast for all our teams now with three games midweek. On Tuesday the Footballers are out in Goodmayes against Kingdom Kerry Gaels in the League, on Wednesday the Ladies Footballers are also out against Kingdom Kerry Gaels in their last Championship game needing a win, while on Thursday the Hurlers are out in Ruislip in the replay of last years Ronan Cup Final.

At the weekend the Camogs travel up to Birmingham on Saturday to play John Mitchells in the last group game knowing a win will see them qualify for the final, while the Hurlers are out in Ruislip again for the Ryan Cup 11-a-side blitz. On Sunday its back to Ruislip again as our Footballers continue their League campaign against Neasden Gaels at 2.00pm while straight afterwards it will be the clubs third final in 9 days as the Reserve Footballers are up against St Kiernans in the Reserve League decider.
