Sligo players celebrate with the 2018 Lory Meagher Cup

Sligo manager Daithí Hand won’t entertain any talk that they are now favourites for the Nicky Rackard Cup title.

Having secured their place in the semi-final with a draw against Mayo, which subsequently eliminated their opponents from the championship, Sligo are now being tipped for championship glory.

It would be a remarkable achievement for the Yeats County if they were to win the Nicky Rackard Cup in their first year back there, having won the Lory Meagher last year.

However, Hand told the Sligo Champion that all they are focused on now is the semi-final against Warwickshire and they are looking no further than that.

“Definitely not,” was Hand’s reply when being asked did he think they were favourites. “The pressure is on everyone else. Sure this is only our first year in it. We’ve taken it one game at a time and we’ll see how next weekend goes against Warwickshire.

“It’s all about next week. Like nothing’s been won, there’s a rake of lessons to be learned. I thought some of the lads looked a little bit tired in the second half, we’ll go back to the drawing board now as a management unit and we’ll see what the craic is next weekend then.”
