St Brendan's GAA Manchester Celebrating 60 Years

February 04, 2019

St Brendan's GAA Manchester are celebrating 60 years in existence.

St Brendan's GAA Manchester was formed 60 years ago on August 24th 1959 to cater for Irish men and women who had emigrated to England in search of employment opportunities and in the hope of a new life. Manchester was a favoured destination for many Irish and one such lad was Roscommon-born Michael Magnan. Michael acted as Chairman of the newly founded club in 1959, and 60 years on he still takes an active role in promoting Gaelic football within Manchester and across the North West.

Based in Trafford, at the heart of South Manchester, St Brendan's has grown from strength to strength in the 6 decades since it was initially founded. The club now has a thriving underage structure as well as being able to attract senior footballers who settle in and around Manchester.

St Brendans’ will celebrate our 60th Anniversary on Saturday 9th February at the Cresta Court Hotel in Altrincham. We will be joined by special guest and RTE Sunday Game legend Michael Lyster, there will also be live music on the night from Tyrone’s finest – Barry Kirwan.

St Brendan’s are the most successful club in Lancashire amassing 19 Senior Football Championships to date. 2018 brought silverwear in the Wolfe Tone Cup, Pennine League and Junior League, and with new management on board for the 2019 season we are hoping for our most successful year to date.
