Dulwich Harps club notes

November 12, 2018

On the 27th of October, the club held a hugely successful Men’s and ladies 7’s tournament in aid of our current player Siobhan McCann who is battling cancer. Over 240 team’s participated in the tournament and approximately 400 people attending the event throughout the day. The final totals have been tallied, and amazingly the club has managed to raise £32,234 for Siobahn’s fight! This is beyond our wildest expectations and we are grateful to the Irish community in London and further afield for supporting the event and looking after one of their own.

The club held its annual Dinner Dance in the Bromley Court Hotel on Saturday evening and it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening for all. A large crowd were in attendance for evening and music was provided by the excellent Darren Nash. Master of Ceremony for the evening was Dave Draper who has moved back to Ireland in September with his partner Ursula Murphy. Both have been prominent figures within the club over the past number of years and it was fitting that they travelled over to join us for the evening.   On the night Dave was presented with a club jersey for all his efforts both on and off the field over the previous 5 years.  Everyone at the club would like to thank Dave and Ursula for all their endeavours over the past few years and we wish them every success for their future back in Ireland.

On the awards side of things, the winners for the evening were as follows; Men’s Player of the Year – Tim Russell; Men’s Newcomer of the year – Ryan Butcher; Ladies Player of the Year – Maeve Wylie; Ladies Newcomer of the Year – Louise McKeever and Club Person of the Year Tara Quinn.

Congratulations to all the award winners on the evening. The awards on the evening were presented to the winners by Gerry Folan from Mostrim Groundworks who are the main sponsors for the Ladies team. We thank them and the Men’ sponsors, The Irish World for all their help throughout the season.

As always, we are on the lookout for potential players and committee members and if you are interested in joining our welcoming club, contact Enda on 07522 723765 or Maeve on 07907 301806.
