Clann na nGael manager Fergal Shine feels it would be remiss of them not to give London champions Tir Chonaill Gaels the respect they deserve.

The sides meet in the Connacht club SFC quarterfinal at Dr Hyde Park on Sunday afternoon and the Roscommon side go into this game as strong favourites to advance to the last four.

Despite this, Shine has stressed to the Westmeath Independent that there will be no complacency amongst his charges for the clash.

“I know as a former player, these are the games that you want to be involved in. The All-Ireland club championship is a brilliant competition. All the great footballers of the game will remark that the finals they won with their clubs were extra special because they shared the experience with their family members, their close friends and school friends,” said Shine.

“We had an opportunity to see Tir Chonaill Gaels playing because we travelled over to London to watch the drawn final at McGovern Park. The standard of football was very impressive and I wasn’t surprise by that.

“Both teams were very professional in their approach and either of them wouldn’t look out of place if they were competing in the Roscommon championship. They have some great footballers and we now have an understanding of the brand of football they like to play from the trip.”

He added: “They are not just coming over to the Hyde just to make up the numbers and we certainly won’t be complacent about the fixture and we’ll be sitting down with the squad to go through our tactics like we would in any other game.”
