Thomas McCurtains GAA Club Notes

July 10, 2018

We hosted our successful Annual Family Fun Day on Saturday and the weather could not have been better for a full day of GAA action. Our underage hurlers played a game against Fr Murphys in the morning before the underage footballers and parents played a challenge game with the kids winning fairly and squarely by 5 points. There were two senior games down for decision on the day with the Hurlers winning against Granuaile and the Footballers overcoming St Josephs. Earlier in the day the Camogs had a great win over Fr Murphys to qualify for the Championship Semi Final.

Next week is busy with five McCurtains teams in action. First up on Tuesday the U15 footballers play St Clarets in the Championship Semi Final in Greenford and the Hurlers play St Gabriels 'B' in the League in Goodmayes. Then on Thursday the Footballers continue their League campaign against St Clarets also in Greenford. At the weekend Saturday sees our Camogs travel up to Birmingham to play John Mitchells in the Intermediate Championship Semi Final while on Sunday the Reserve Footballers are out against North London Shamrocks in Tottenhall.

The All-Britain Competitions will be played in Greenford next weekend. We wish our underage teams participating the best of luck.

Finally best of luck to the six McCurtains Ladies on the London Ladies Football team playing against Kilkenny in the All Ireland Junior Championship this Sunday.

Camogie:

The Camogs had a great win in their final Championship group game against Fr Murphys. As the saying goes goals win games and that certainly proved true in this game. A brace from Christina Scallon and three from hat-trick hero Amy Walsh were the difference as the ladies won an entertaining encounter 5-05 to 2-05. This means that they now qualify for the Championship Semi Finals.

Mens Hurling:

McCurtains were always in control of this game played in sweltering heat on Saturday. Goals in each half courtesy of Dean Corrigan and Stephen Cronin made sure the Macs got the win against Granuaile.

Mens Football:

The footballers led St Josephs from the start and built up a six point lead by half time. Second half goals from Mark McGirr and Paddy Halligan sealed the second win of the day in Goodmayes on a final score of 2-16 to 1-10.
