Hughes, Charlie

April 28, 2005
The Late Charlie Hughes Requiem Mass was celebrated for Charlie Hughes of Drumglass Way, Dungannon, who died in Craigavon hospital. Charlie was the beloved husband of Pat and loving father of Lorraine, Natalie and Liam. The funeral Mass was in St Patrick's Church, Dungannon with interment afterwards in Carland Road Cemetery. Charlie was a highly-rated Gaelic footballer before emigrated to England in the early 60s, having been the captain of the first Clarkes team to win the minor championship, back in 1962. However, he didn't actually play in the final because he was fog-bound at Birmingham airport and didn't get home in time. The son of the late John and the late Kathleen Hughes, originally from Ann Street but latterly from Ardbeg, Charlie stayed in England for over 30 years, returning some fourteen years ago with his wife Pat and young family. He was a quiet, unassuming individual who enjoyed the odd game of snooker in the local league and was generally keen on watching sports live or on television. His departure is deeply regretted by his sorrowing wife, son and daughters as well as his five brothers and five sisters Betty (Fee), Eileen (Skelton), Peter. Courtesy of the Tyrone Times April 2005
